Covering an area of 40,000 square metres, it will create a ‘state of the art facility’ which caters for 420 primary school pupils and 560 secondary school pupils.
Dixons Trinity is divided into two parts by the A58 highway. The main north site accommodates the school building itself, plus the main pupil and visitor entrance and playgrounds. On the other side of the road, the south site has car parking, a pupil drop-off zone and sports pitches, which include a 4G all-weather pitch, a games court and a multi-use games area (MUGA).
Spanning the road and linking the two sites will be a 26m-long steel vierendeel truss bridge, which will connect directly into the school building’s southern elevation at second floor level.
The school first opened in September 2017 in a temporary site, when it took on 30 reception pupils, but aims to be an all-through school by 2023. With a curriculum and approach designed specifically to serve the community of Chapeltown and Harehills in Leeds, the new academy will replicate the success of Dixons Trinity Academy, Bradford, the first secondary free school to be judged Outstanding by Ofsted.
